Ever since the brand’s inception, their vision has remained the same: to help people travel further with less. Wayre’s collections are full of functional, stylish pieces that have been designed to simplify your travel wardrobe.

  • ★★★★★

The Bermuda Flow Short is made from Wayre’s proprietary Like-Silk fabric, which is actually a Bluesign® approved material — meaning it’s received the highest sustainability certification given to the textile industry. Like-Silk is remarkably soft, and as its name suggests, it has a silky smooth feel that’s really nice against the skin.

I ended up ordering a size small, and I’m so glad I did because they have the perfect length and leg opening for my 5’5” frame. I love that these shorts are designed with a flat front band, elasticized backing, hidden pockets, and tasteful pleats — all of which gives them a chic, relaxed look that can really go anywhere.

  • ★★★★★

These shorts retail at $89, and given their incredible quality and sustainable production, that prices feels *very* reasonable to me. Sure, Wayre’s apparel has a higher price point than other retailers (especially within the world of fast fashion), but that’s because their clothing is elevated on every level.

  • ★★★★★

If you’ve made it this far into our review, you already have a pretty good understanding of Wayre’s commitment to sustainability. But in addition to sourcing responsible fibers, Wayre also uses 100% post-consumer recycled materials in all their packaging (which I suspected when my order arrived, but was happy to confirm on their website).

Pros:

  • Lightweight and packable fabric

  • Flat, zippered pockets at each side

  • Hidden pocket along the waistband

  • Prevents wrinkles, smells, and spills

  • Sustainable materials and manufacturing

Cons:

  • Sizing chart can be a bit confusing

Wayre’s travel apparel is anything but ordinary, which is likely why this brand has gained so much praise and popularity the last few years. Their modern silhouettes, clever construction, and sustainable practices have quickly made them a favorite within the slow fashion movement. In this review we’re giving you a full rundown of Wayre’s Bermuda Flow Short, which won us over in a big way and is sure to become a go-to piece in our travel wardrobe.

Wayre: What To Know About the Brand

For Wayre’s founders, travel is more than just an occasional hobby; it’s a chosen lifestyle, and the ‘greatest teacher’ in helping to understand the world around us. Still, the packing part of travel can be somewhat of a hassle, considering all the different outings and *unexpecteds* you have to plan for. But that’s exactly why Rachael Kemp and her brother-in-law, Chris, launched their Kickstarter campaign back in July of 2019 — to alleviate those packing woes and provide modern travelers with apparel that’s lightweight, breathable, and sustainably made.

Ever since the brand’s inception, their vision has remained the same: to help people travel further with less. Wayre’s collections are full of functional, stylish pieces that have been designed to simplify your travel wardrobe. What’s more, all of Wayre’s garments are made from reclaimed plastic waste that’s been diverted from landfills throughout Asia. Not only that, but Wayre’s planet-focused manufacturing methods use significantly less water and energy (and create less waste) as compared to production for cotton and other conventional fibers.

Wayre Bermuda Flow Short Review

There’s no doubt Wayre is a leader in the sustainable fashion space, but they’re also doing a great job with inclusive sizing and representation among their models. With so much to admire about this brand, it was time we tried out one of their bestsellers for ourselves. The following is a review of Wayre’s Bermuda Flow Short, purchased in a size small in the Fern Green color.

Unpacking and First Impressions

My Wayre order arrived in a humble brown envelope that I assumed was made out of some type of recycled and/or recyclable material. Inside, my shorts were neatly folded, though there wasn’t any additional plastic or packaging surrounding them. To my surprise, I also discovered a complimentary face mask, a ‘thank you’ card, and a beautiful booklet enticing me to return to Barcelona. These little extras were such a thoughtful touch, and made my whole order feel super special. Overall, I’d rank my first impression of Wayre as a solid two thumbs up.

Quality of Materials

The Bermuda Flow Short is made from Wayre’s proprietary Like-Silk fabric, which is actually a Bluesign® approved material — meaning it’s received the highest sustainability certification given to the textile industry. Pretty impressive, huh? Like-Silk is remarkably soft, and as its name suggests, it has a silky smooth feel that’s really nice against the skin. From searching Wayre’s website, I learned that Like-Silk is ethically and sustainably made in Taiwan, and has a number of useful features built right into the fabric. In addition to having four-way stretch, this material is also spill-proof, stink-proof, and UV-resistant, making it ideal for wearing while on the move.

Sizing and Fit

To be honest, I had difficulty understanding the size chart Wayre provided; for whatever reason, I couldn’t align my measurements with those listed. While I thought about emailing the brand’s fit consultants, instead, I referenced the ‘Model Details’ tab and selected my size based on Genevieve’s proportions (which were most similar to my own).

Value for Money

These shorts retail at $89, and given their incredible quality and sustainable production, that prices feels *very* reasonable to me. Sure, Wayre’s apparel has a higher price point than other retailers (especially within the world of fast fashion), but that’s because their clothing is elevated on every level. On top of being ethically made from eco-friendly, post-consumer recycled plastic, the Bermuda Flow Short’s fabric helps block smells and spills and instantly recovers its shape after unfolding — meaning it’s hyper-packable and ready to travel. With so many practical features and beautiful details to enjoy, I feel like the cost of these shorts is totally justified.

Sustainability Efforts

If you’ve made it this far into our review, you already have a pretty good understanding of Wayre’s commitment to sustainability. But in addition to sourcing responsible fibers, Wayre also uses 100% post-consumer recycled materials in all their packaging (which I suspected when my order arrived, but was happy to confirm on their website). Each of these practices plays an important role in helping the brand achieve climate neutrality. To move even closer to this goal, Wayre has chosen to partner with low output manufacturers and handle all their fulfillment in-house, for a more hands-on approach to energy efficiency.

The Bottom Line

It’s easy to see that sustainability (and intentionality) are at the center of Wayre’s designs, and I can honestly say my purchase exceeded any and all expectations I may have had. The Bermuda Flow Short is hands down a huge win and a worthwhile investment. From the luxe feel and ease of wear, to the sleek pockets and flattering silhouette, these shorts check a lot of boxes in terms of quality and craftsmanship. And while I loved testing them out for the purpose of this review, I can’t wait to take these shorts with me on all my spring and summer travels.

Wayre Clothing FAQs

Does Wayre offer inclusive sizing?

Yes, Wayre’s clothing has inclusive sizing that ranges from XXS to XXXL (or 00 to 24 for certain garments). While size-inclusive fashion is gaining in popularity, it can still be difficult to find with slow fashion brands, which is one of the things that makes Wayre so special.

What materials does Wayre use?

All of the materials from Wayre are recycled, non-toxic, and designed to last. Both of their proprietary performance fabrics — Like-Silk and Aire-Flex — are made from post-consumer plastic waste that’s been diverted from landfills throughout Asia.

Does Wayre have ethical manufacturing?

Wayre has formed a partnership with Everest Textile in Tainan City, Taiwan. Everest is a socially responsible manufacturer who’s been raising the bar for ‘green and ethical practices’ over the last several years. Their team in Taiwan oversees each stage of Wayre's supply chain, from fiber sourcing and production, all the way to finished apparel.
