Pillow Slides Signature Slide Review: Maximum Comfort at an Affordable Price

Product Review Summary

We love the look and feel of The Pillow Slides, since there’s no denying just how cute and comfortable they are. Even still, we had to dock them a few points for the lack of sustainable production and/or eco-friendly materials, which are sadly missing here.

Ratings

  • ★★★★☆

The Pillow Slides are an ultra-comfortable sandal + house shoe hybrid that ‘therapeutically compresses with every step’ to give your joints a little extra relief. These versatile slides can be worn while lounging at home or running errands around town, and you can expect to enjoy the same level of comfort either way.

  • ★★★☆☆

Pillow Slides are made from an EVA compression material; in more formal terms, EVA is a type of plastic that’s made by mixing ethylene and vinyl acetate. These days, tons of sneakers have an EVA midsole because it’s much lighter and more flexible than traditional rubber. But it’s not just the sole of The Pillow Slides that’s formed from EVA — the entire shoe is shaped out of this plastic.

  • ★★★★★

After consulting the Pillow Slides site, I opted to purchase a size 6.5 (down a half size from my usual 7). Although these slides feel a *bit* tight on my big toe, I still think they were the best choice since — I’m guessing — the size 7 would’ve been noticeably loose. Other than that, these really are quite comfortable.

  • ★★★★☆

The Pillow Slides are currently on sale for $29.95, and are offering free shipping to entice you even more. With that said, it appears the full retail price for these slides is $69.99 — which in my opinion, would not be a good value.

  • ★★★☆☆

Unfortunately, I found zero information about Pillow Slides’s production practices, which leads me to believe they don’t have much of a focus on sustainability. After all, any brand who’s taking sustainability seriously is quick to tell you about everything they’re doing to protect our planet. Other than the minimal packaging, I can’t see where Pillow Slides is making any strides towards reducing their carbon footprint — not to mention, EVA is a polluting and non-renewable material.

Pros:

  • Amazing comfort and versatility

  • Cute colors that rotate per season

  • Designed to relieve joint pain

  • Anti-chafe and anti-slip

Cons:

  • Non-renewable materials

  • No sustainability efforts

  • Quite costly at full price

Pillow Slides: What To Know About the Brand

The Pillow Slides brand is on a mission to provide customers with exceptional comfort and relief from common foot and ankle pain. Right now, Pillow Slides sells one signature product — The Pillow Slides™ — which are available in women’s, men’s, and youth sizes. The slides are offered in four fun colors, though judging by Instragam, there may have been other options at one point. According to their website, Pillow Slides has more than 150,000 satisfied customers, which is supported by a number of product photos, video testimonials, and written reviews.

I wasn’t able to learn much about the history of this brand, but it seems to be a relatively new company. Despite not being able to confirm a launch date, it looks like Pillow Slides has gained a lot of popularity throughout the pandemic. This timeline makes sense, for sure, considering more and more shoppers are searching for casual apparel that offers maximum comfort.

The Pillow Slides Review

There’s no doubt these squishy slides have had some major hype — so after seeing them all over IG, we figured we’d try them out for ourselves and see what all the fuss is about. The following is a review of The Pillow Slides in a women’s size 6.5, in the Ocean Blue color.

Unpacking and First Impressions

Despite all the shipping and supply chain challenges as of late, my Pillow Slides order showed up pretty quickly. Inside the poly mailer I received, there was a plastic slider bag (i.e. Ziploc® style) with the company’s logo, tagline, and Instagram handle printed on it. I liked that this bag was a bit opaque, so I could get a sneak peek of my shoes even before I took them out. There were no other packing or promotional materials included, which I also appreciated because I know this translates to less waste. My first impression of the slides themselves was that they were exactly as pictured, but felt a little denser than I’d imagined they might be.

Quality of Materials

Pillow Slides are made from an EVA compression material; in more formal terms, EVA is a type of plastic that’s made by mixing ethylene and vinyl acetate. These days, tons of sneakers have an EVA midsole because it’s much lighter and more flexible than traditional rubber. But it’s not just the sole of The Pillow Slides that’s formed from EVA — the entire shoe is shaped out of this plastic. While I recognize this is likely a very cheap material to produce, I also understand why it’s utilized so often. In addition to its incredible compression, EVA is also weatherproof, anti-chafe, and anti-slip, which are great qualities to have for this type of footwear.

Sizing and Fit

After consulting the Pillow Slides site, I opted to purchase a size 6.5 (down a half size from my usual 7). Although these slides feel a *bit* tight on my big toe, I still think they were the best choice since — I’m guessing — the size 7 would’ve been noticeably loose. Other than that, these really are quite comfortable. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say they feel like ‘walking on clouds,’ but they’re definitely very cozy. I’ve mostly worn them around as house shoes, though I’m excited to take them outside once the weather permits. And while I don’t have any joint issues in my feet, I see where these could bring some much-needed relief for people who do.

Value for Money

The Pillow Slides are currently on sale for $29.95, and are offering free shipping to entice you even more. With that said, it appears the full retail price for these slides is $69.99 — which in my opinion, would not be a good value. Is this product comfortable? Yes. Will I get a lot of wear out of it throughout the year? Yes. But is it also manufactured in China using low-cost materials? Yes and yes. For those reasons, I wouldn’t advise spending $70 on The Pillow Slides if/when this current promotion ends. However, for that sale price of $30, you’re probably okay.

Sustainability Efforts

Unfortunately, I found zero information about Pillow Slides’s production practices, which leads me to believe they don’t have much of a focus on sustainability. After all, any brand that’s taking sustainability seriously is quick to tell you about everything they’re doing to protect our planet. Other than the minimal packaging, I can’t see where Pillow Slides is making any strides towards reducing their carbon footprint — not to mention, EVA is a polluting and non-renewable material. This is certainly disappointing because The Pillow Slides are a really fun product we’d like to support and feel good about wearing. But in the words of the one and only Lizzo: truth hurts.

The Bottom Line

The Pillow Slides are an ultra-comfortable sandal + house shoe hybrid that ‘therapeutically compresses with every step’ to give your joints a little extra relief. These versatile slides can be worn while lounging at home or running errands around town, and you can expect to enjoy the same level of comfort either way. But in spite of all that praise, we also have to mention that these slides are made from EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate). Although EVA isn’t the *worst* type of plastic as far as eco-friendliness is concerned, it’s not the best, either. So if you happen to find a sustainable alternative to these beloved slides, let us know, yeah?

The Pillow Slides FAQs

Are Pillow Slides as comfy as they look?

As thousands of reviews can attest, Pillow Slides are super comfortable footwear. Keep in mind, though, you’ll need to wear them about a week before they’re fully broken in. If you’d rather not wait that long, you can also soak them in warm water for half an hour to soften things up.

Are Pillow Slides waterproof?

Yes, Pillow Slides are made from an EVA material, meaning they are fully waterproof and can be worn in nearly any condition or climate. Pop them on when you’re at the beach, in the shower, on a walk, or anywhere else you could use some compressive comfort.

Do Pillow Slides cure foot pain?

The short answer is no, Pillow Slides cannot cure your foot pain. Still, many customers have expressed that they do help with joint issues in the feet and ankles. That’s because The Pillow Slides compress with each step and absorb the position of your foot for added comfort.
