The following is a review of Calpak’s Terra Hanging Toiletry Bag in the color Canyon.
First Impressions
When my Terra Hanging Toiletry Bag arrived, I was IN LOVE with the color. The outer fabric felt incredibly durable and easy to wipe down should there be any spills. I also loved the top handle and the way it closed with a cute light pink buckle. With many trips coming up, I was excited to pack this up and put it to the test.
Quality of Materials
The exterior of this toiletry bag is crafted from recycled ripstop polyester that's water-resistant, ensuring durability to handle the inevitable spills and leaks that occur while traveling with an array of toiletries. The interior is also made of recycled polyester, designed for easy cleaning. There is also an abundance of pockets, featuring robust zippers and mesh lining, and the sturdy plastic buckle at the front has proven its durability, enduring everything I've subjected it to during nearly a year of travel. In terms of materials, it’s clear Calpak didn’t skimp here.
Interior Organization
The abundance of pockets within this toiletry bag is almost overwhelming. Each internal facet of the bag boasts a pocket constructed with an upper elastic strap. Additionally, the inside of the lid features a zip-closed mesh pocket. The bag also incorporates a collapsible hanging hook that conveniently tucks away when not in use.
On the bag's external side, a lateral pocket resides, accompanied by elastic straps that appear suitable for stowing makeup brushes or other small travel essentials. To be candid, I hardly ever use these pockets, as anything that is packed away in these sections tends to dislodge during travel. While I appreciate the capability to clasp the toiletry bag shut, I do wish it could fully zip closed. On several occasions, items have slipped out into my suitcase, even when I’ve fastened the clasp closed.
Overall Design
One of the things I love about Calpak is all the fun colors and prints they use — and this toiletry bag is no different. Available in vibrant colors like Canyon, Amethyst, and Juniper, if you’re looking to spice up your travel gear, Calpak has got your back. I also love all the internal pockets as well as the collapsible hanging hook. The only thing I wish the designers had done was to construct it in a way so it fully zips closed. I would’ve also appreciated side pockets with zippers because the current side pocket and elastic straps aren’t very practical and items tend to fall out. Setting those aspects aside, however, I think it’s a great toiletry bag that absolutely does the job.
Value for Money
At $56, I find the pricing to be slightly on the higher side considering it can’t be closed up all the way. For something of this nature, I would have been comfortable paying around $40. However, Calpak frequently offers discounts, so I’d recommend waiting for one of their sales that occur every few months before investing in this toiletry bag.
The Bottom Line
The Terra Hanging Toiletry Bag from Calpak impressed me with its durable design, constructed from water-resistant recycled ripstop polyester, making it ready to handle spills of any kind during travel. While the bag offers a multitude of pockets, including internal elastic-strapped compartments and a zip-closed mesh pocket inside the lid, its external side pocket and elastic straps might be less practical due to their tendency to dislodge items during travel. I also wished it would zip completely closed at the top, instead of just buckling closed. Priced at $56, the bag seems slightly overpriced for its features, but given Calpak's frequent sales, waiting for one of their periodic discounts could make this well-designed bag more budget-friendly.
