Ratings

  • ★★★★☆

This bag is made from 100% recycled ripstop polyester with a TPU coating, providing exceptional water resistance and a strong hard-sided base that ensures its durability during travel. I’d recommend using the bag as a carry-on rather than checking it to avoid potential damage, as I experienced a few scuffs and dents after checking it on a flight. On a positive note, the bag includes a convenient TSA-approved lock and smooth 360 spinner wheels, offering effortless maneuverability at the airport.

  • ★★★★☆

This bag excels in organization, possibly to an excessive extent, providing a wealth of pockets and compartments for storing a wide range of travel essentials. While it does feature a padded laptop pocket, which is a nice addition, I personally never felt the need to utilize it as I prefer carrying my laptop in my backpack. However, the bag's expandable capacity, allowing for an extra 2 inches of space, is a delightful feature for those of us prone to overpacking.

  • ★★★★☆

I love the overall aesthetic of this bag and definitely found myself turning heads while at the airport. Notably, its construction incorporates the repurposing of 27 recycled plastic bottles, making it an environmentally friendly choice that is impressively lightweight, weighing less than 8 lbs. Although I found the abundance of pockets and interconnected compartments slightly excessive, the bag's overall construction instills confidence in its durability and makes it a reliable, enjoyable carry-on that will be a go-to option.

  • ★★★☆☆

Priced at $385, I found this bag to be somewhat overpriced, especially considering the absence of expected features such as a hard-sided construction and a removable charger. However, there is a silver lining as Calpak frequently offers sales, so if you're interested in adding this bag to your travel collection, it would be wise to wait for a sale to acquire it at a more reasonable price.

Pros:

  • Abundance of pockets and compartments

  • Fun and unique color options

  • Expandable up to 2 inches

  • Durable construction that’s water-resistant

Cons:

  • Higher price point

  • Missing features you’d expect at this price point such as locking zippers and a removable charger

  • Excessive pocket design that’s not totally necessary

Calpak Terra 45L Carry-On Luggage Review

As someone who has a weakness for all things pink, I couldn't resist the temptation when I stumbled upon this delightful carry-on suitcase from Calpak. I was filled with excitement to give it a go and see what it had to offer. The following is a review of Calpak’s Terra 45L Carry-On Luggage in the color Canyon.

First Impressions

If there’s one thing Calpak does right, it’s their branding. Along with a Calpak branded cover, they thoughtfully included charming travel stickers and a well-designed brochure showcasing their other products. As I unwrapped the cover, I instantly fell in love with the unique Canyon color of the suitcase. The abundance of pockets and compartments also caught my attention, leaving me eager to pack up for a weekend getaway and experience its travel capabilities firsthand.

Quality of Materials

Crafted from 100% recycled ripstop polyester and coated with TPU, this bag boasts excellent water resistance and a sturdy hard-sided base, ensuring its resilience against the inevitable rigors of travel. While the fabric is undeniably durable, I highly recommend using this bag as a carry-on and avoiding checking it. Unfortunately, I discovered a few scuffs and dents on my bag after a flight where I had to check it. On a positive note, the bag features a convenient TSA-approved lock and smooth 360 spinner wheels, effortlessly gliding along the airport floor.

Interior Organization

This bag is a haven of organization, perhaps even to an excessive extent. It offers an abundance of pockets and compartments for storing various travel essentials, almost to the point of overkill. Although it does include a padded laptop pocket, which is a nice feature, I personally never found the need to use it since I prefer carrying my laptop in my backpack. However, I did find the expandable capability of the bag, allowing for an additional 2 inches of space, to be a dream come true for those of us prone to overpacking.

Overall Design

I love the overall aesthetic of this bag and definitely found myself turning heads while at the airport. It's worth mentioning that the bag's construction involves repurposing 27 recycled plastic bottles, making it not only environmentally friendly but also impressively lightweight, weighing just under 8 lbs.

Overall, I feel as though the pockets and interconnected compartments appeared a tad excessive. While some travelers may appreciate the extra organization options, it left me questioning whether I would truly utilize all of them efficiently. Nonetheless, it is undeniable that the suitcase's design caters to those who prefer meticulous organization and compartmentalization. I also couldn't help but notice a minor inconvenience that stood out to me – the zippers. Unlike the reliable locking zippers found in Away suitcases and other comparable Away alternatives, these seemed to lack the same level of security. Lockable zippers can provide an extra layer of reassurance, especially during travels where you need to leave your suitcase unattended. This omission made me realize how much I appreciate the peace of mind that such a feature offers.

Value for Money

At a price point of $385, I found this bag to be somewhat overpriced. Considering its cost, I would have anticipated features like a hard-sided construction, a removable charger, and locking zippers. Thankfully, Calpak frequently offers sales, so if you're tempted to add this bag to your travel collection, I would suggest waiting for a sale to obtain it at a more reasonable price.

The Bottom Line

If you're in search of functional and colorful luggage, and you're willing to invest, the Terra 45L Carry-On Luggage from Calpak is an excellent choice. This bag offers an abundance of pockets and storage options (almost to the point of excess), making it a perfect fit for individuals who enjoy compartmentalizing and keeping everything neatly organized.
